Dear Martin, I hadn't been having much progress with my eyesight improvement so I went online to vision site advertised on your site and ordered myself a new weaker strength of glasses. My previous glasses were -10 and -10.75. These glasses are -7 and -7.25. I wear them for driving and things I need glasses for. I can see! I daily deal with my fear of not seeing the small print on everything or the signpost at the other end of the street (length wise) or that I might judge the size of a parking space but each day I am successful. I take my glasses off when I talk on the phone and know I need to take them off more often so I become more at ease with the consciousness that doesn't use glasses but this has been a step for me. I do feel tense a lot and this is indicated in the tight muscle mentioned in my other post on back and hip problems. My daughters have pointed out two things to me. 1. I said I would like to go out more and wouldn't like to spend most of my time in the house, my 8 year old pointed out that I do spend most of my time in the house. 2. My 17 year old said to me today " Mum, as long as you do what you want" and then I launched into all the things that i have to do that I don't want because I'm a mum. She said "Mum, so long as you do the things that you want". I realised that I don't know what I want to do and when my family offer encouragement I just point out what I have to do that I don't want. Now that I 've noticed this I have a choice. What am I going to do now that I want to do. It's a matter of changing my focus isn't it?

Just look at it in a practical sense - what do I want to do now? Well, eat an apple, for example - or go for a walk - or see a movie - or do a meditation....

One thing that I also do, which helps is to give myself little rewards of doing what I want throughout the day. For example, if I have to do something I don't particularly want to do (clean the bathroom for example), I think of something I do want to do, and give it to myself as a reward after I've completed the other thing. Helps me get the everyday stuff of life done, and also fills my day with many small pleasures Peace, Maria

Hi Gus, I didn't ask them for lower prescription glasses, I just looked at my prescription and the suppliers didn't go that far on - lenses. Vanity had me going for the strength I did as the thicker the glasses the more circles in the glass. So I opted for the -7 and -7.25 and entered that on the form where I was to enter my prescription. I didn't ask them because I felt that was giving away my power and giving others the authority over what my eyesight should be. Every optician I've gone to in the past has always given me stronger lenses than 20/20 even when I've asked for weaker lenses. You don't have to send your prescription to the online sites, you can enter it in yourself, although it does state on their site to read it off your prescription. I did read off my prescription and then changed it. (without telling them) Yesterday though I felt I may have been a bit ambitious changing the strength by 3, but when I go without glasses I am changing the strength by 10! Make sure you are able to see enough for driving though. Good luck, Alice.

...and it is true that many eye doctors like to correct to better than 20 20 vision - and that does not necessarily do something good for you. Normal vision is an arbitrary measure of whether you can read a certain size letter at a certain distance. It does not require that you see it clearly - just that you can make out what it is.

Alice, in my opinion you are absolutely right.I also have decided to buy the weeker lenses I desire without having to beg the optometrist to give them to me and having to listen to him saying: "when you don't wear the glasses you are supposed to, you hurt your eyes", while I look out the window pretending I can't hear ...!!I could also find an optometrist to whom I can honestly tell I am in the middle of a vision improvement process, but pretending every time I have my eyes checked is not really good for me!It is exactly as you said it Alice, I am giving away my power.

Actually, while it's nice that you are taking this approach, the recommendation I make is that when you do not need the glasses to do what you are doing, leave them off. When you need them to do what you are doing, put them on for that, and when you are done, take them off again.
After a while you will notice that when you put them on, they bother your eyes. That's when I would say the glasses are already too strong for you, and you can have your eyes examined to see how much of an improvement there has been.
No optometrist can argue with success, when they re-examine your eyes and find that your prescription is just too strong for you - though they might think that the previous prescription wads in error.
Anyway, the final scene in this move is to get a new driver's license when you find you have returned to normal vision.

I feel you are absolutely right Martin.I am not wearing my glasses as much as possible(there are several days in a row when I don't wear them at all, and when I do it is because I'm driving or something), and, I don't know, maybe it's because I am used to not wearing them that I get headackes and feel dizzy when I do. I have (begged for and obtained) much weeker lenses than what the results indicated,2 months ago.But still, they didn't feel good.(The ones prescribed felt terrible and for some reason broke twice by accident!!).Not feeling good was one of the reasons I avoided wearing them. I had my eyes checked 3 days ago.2 months ago it was:-4.25,1.50astigmatism, *both* eyes. 3 days ago it was:right eye -4.25,1.75 astigmatism, and left eye -5.25, 0.75astigm. <I have to say that I think this reflects some things that happened in my life-I felt more "myself" emotionally, expressed that, and then felt afraid. But anyway, such a change in the results shows me that there can be other changes as well- like no myopia and no astigmatism at all- in the future.> However, I had to listen to the optometrist once more advising me to "give my eyes what they ask for", and having to hide my true feelings didn't feel good.I was reminded of that when I read Alice's post!

Other symptoms I have experienced that indicate fear was a diarrea and my legs feeling weak and slightly numb-especially the left. So finding the myopia increased was not a surprise (I wonder what possessed me and made me have my eyes chacked in such a state:))) This made me think that perhaps the myopia is increasing and decreasing constantly, according to one's feelings. It could be changing all the time actually, so when I have my eyes checked it's like taking a picture of myself at that time.

Martin, you wrote: "the recommendation I make is that when you do not need the glasses to do what you are doing, leave them off. When you need them to do what you are doing, put them on for that, and when you are done, take them off again." With -10 I feel I always need them...! Even reading without glasses is somehow frustrating. I can´t go out without glasses I will feel lost immediately.

You need to step through the hesitation. Recognize that the emotion you feel is what has been stored in your consciousness from the time you began to not see clearly.
If you do insist on leaving your glasses on, and you begin to notice that they are uncomfortable, then get your eyes re-examined.
You should know that in our vision improvement classes, everyone is required to remove their glasses.

Maiwa, My prescription is currently -12 in each eye. I do as much as I can without glasses and have found that because I no longer wear contacts or glasses for most activities that I am not even aware of the blur at times! I have a pair of glasses I use for driving that afford me 20/40 vision (they have gotten too strong and I will be getting a new pair soon) and a pair of -9 that I use at work. I wear pinholes for reading. The tech at my optometrist's office told me she could not believe that I walk my dog without glasses given my prescription. I told her that was just a number and doesn't correlate with how well I am seeing.
Since starting a home vision program, I have had flashes of clarity that have amazed me and reiterate the fact that there is NOTHING wrong with my eyes. I have also ordered Martin's visualization CD's and read his books and have started to work on changing perceptions about my life. I have been able to move thru some incredibly painful experiences and can actually laugh about some circumstances that had caused me despair!
What we expect is the best determinant of what we get. I tell myself this often, especially when old frustrations resurface. Some people at work have made some insensitive comments about my "coke bottles". I realize that this is out of ignorance and do not let it deter me from my journey.
I wish you luck on your journey!

I attended several weekend-courses some years ago and it was easier to remove my glasses there. Guess it is really a matter of feeling protected. Thanks for sharing your experience, danuta. I still haven´t given up and am still determined to see clear, but maybe not enough yet because I avoid the feelings which come up.
