Information about the role of the extraocular muscles is basic to the work of Dr. William Bates, and mentioned in his book, "Better Eyesight Without Glasses." You can check out his work for possible reference material.
My own area of expertise is the role of consciousness in relation to eyesight, based on my own experience and observations.
Eye exercises are mentioned in my book as generally accepted "classic" methods used to improve eyesight, but for me, the primary key to improving eyesight is understanding what is happening in the consciousness and working in that area, making the changes necessary to releasing tensions and returning to clear vision.
