Sounds like stuff still going on in uyour root chakra - insecurities - remaining effects of decisions you made at that time concerning security, survival, trust.
Reaffirm your trust and confidence. Put down solid roots.
Trust your trip.

I am very grateful for your reply. I have a chakra sound tape which has the root chakra sound on it. Can you tell me how to visualise to make me well again?

Imagine a clear red ball of energy where you know the root chakra to be - just above your perineum - and imagine red roots going into the earth,k finding a big ball of clear red energy there, and drawing this energy from mother earth into your root chakra. Accept it.
...and also, welcome in the love from your mother and allow yourself to feel nourished by it.

I read your first reply with interest because the problem started when I was accepted by the fire service. Although I had worked really hard to get in, the realisation of going into a military style training school scared the life out of me. The twitching started two days after being shown around and measured up for my kit. I now love the job and I hope I can get better.

Glad you could see the connection between the twitching and the job insecurity. Focus now on confidence, and the twitching should release.
Pay attention also to other root chakra issues - money, and home - and feeling safe to be you.
